My 5th grade science lover absolutely inhaled this book. She loved reading about each famous scientist and telling me all about the fun stories and cute pictures. I've also noticed her trying to emulate some of the qualities she admired in the people discussed here. There is a a lot of diversity among the scientists-- In area of study, time period, and ethnic background. Probably an equal number of men and women and the women are celebrated for real discoveries, not simply for being "the first woman to...." (A pet peave of mine in most books of this type)There is a lot of discussion of the challenges the people had to go through. Areas they struggled with in school, special needs, personality quirks, etc.A fascinating and inspiring book. I highly recommend.
My son absolutely loved this book! He loved hearing about each scientist as a young person. It made them more relatable than just learning about them at school.
My 5th graders love this book. For some reason though, it is the only one in the collection that is not listed on AR.
Purchased this for my daughter who wants to become a scientist. She loved reading stories of famous scientist when they were young.
My son loves this book and pours over it. I really appreciate the fact that over half of the scientists in the book are women!
Great book
4.5 StarsA diverse collection of mini-bios of some of the greatest scientific minds that roughly covers the last couple of centuries. Just like the other books in this series, the scientists are from different backgrounds and cultures and are loosely grouped by subject. There's plenty of amusing artwork and a good selection for further reading at the end. A good choice for middle grades.Net Galley Feedback
This was such an amazing book and so much fun to read! Each scientist gets their own short story that's packed full of facts and illustrations! This is great for a young reader who wants to know more about their idol or one who is more into nonfiction than fiction. They have a ton of great picks and I love that there was diversity in both race and the science topic!
