I cannot recommend this book enough. If you are pregnant or have a baby younger than 4 months BUY THIS BOOK! I have a 5 week old and have almost finished it and it is a game changer. I bought it when she was a week old, and I wish I would have read it while pregnant! I read Elizabeth Pantley's "No Cry Sleep Solution" for my older daughter when she was around a year old, but this one is specifically for newborns and I feel like a lot of our sleep issues with my older daughter could have been avoided if I had this information from the beginning. I love Elizabeth Pantley because she uses gentle parenting methods, doesn't believe in sleep training or scheduling babies, understands infant behavior, and works to honor the breastfeeding relationship. She also takes into account the needs of the parents and family in ways that others often don't. She encourages mothers to follow their instincts in a way that I haven't encountered in any other book. This book is so helpful, empowering, and sane (nothing unrealistic or extreme). It is also endorsed by Dr. James McKenna, which gives it the utmost credibility for an infant sleep book.I am a doula and childbirth educator so I have had a lot of training on breastfeeding and infant behavior and this is by far the most helpful baby sleep/behavior book I have ever read.

Before you buy, please understand that this book is NOT intended to give you any advice or methods on making your infant sleep 8, 10, 12 hours a night (which they absolutely shouldn't be doing anyway). The point of this book is that you should not be attempting to "make" your child do anything. What it DOES provide is information about how to help your infant get more restful and stress-free sleep, (even when it's only for 2-3 hour stretches overnight) which leads to a baby who is happier and much less fussy. What I like about this book is the constant reminder that every baby is different and that your number one priority is to get to know your child and the unique way he/she communicates with you. Too many books tout their "fail-proof method" of getting a baby to sleep/eat/stop fussing or whatever else, but the fact is, there is nothing that works on every baby. You may come to realize that the thing he is "supposed to love" is something he actually hates because every baby is different and they all are soothed by different things. Sure, there are some things that work with the majority of babies and they are all worth a try, but the main idea of this book is that you MUST pay close attention to YOUR baby. Don't let anyone else tell you what he does or doesn't like...you have to figure that out for yourself. This book has helped me to shut out all the excess information that has proven unhelpful for me. My 1-month old son has already started getting more restful sleep and overall has been less fussy (though it'll still happen from time to time, there's no way around it). If you are looking for some sort of method on how to make your baby conform to your schedule or preferences, look elsewhere. If, however, you are looking for advice on how to better understand what your baby needs and how to make him happier, I highly recommend this book.

My fifth child was born 7 weeks ago and I was reading this book in the hospital. I can't believe all of the things I've learned. I've always wanted to be able to put my child down awake and not have to army crawl out of the room so that I'm not discovered! Now I can! I have implemented white noise and just this morning my 4 year old was in my room talking to me while my baby slept, and he kept sleeping! I've learned how to get better rest through the night also now that the sleep cycles were explained so well. I love the way the book is written with such encouragement toward the reader. If you are looking for a book with a gentle, logical and successful approach to helping your newborn (and you) sleep better, read this book! You won't regret it!

I had the original book which is intended for children over the age of 4 months, I am glad I got this one. My lil one was 2 months when I started reading it and we put a lot of the aspects into use. It really helped us establish a routine and read our baby’s signals.

I have read several books on how to help infants sleep. This one is my favorite. Written by a mom and grandma with lots of experience. She has done her research. I feel her book has a lot of good, sound, realistic advice with lots of different options to try. She understands that babies are all different and encourages the reader to do what's best for baby and mommy. Everything in the book is based on love and family relations.

My second little one has slept SOOO much better after applying theories in this book. I think it helped me to really get in tune with my baby as well. Read it!!

I loved No Cry Sleep Solution book for my two older girls, but I definitely wish I had read it sooner! For our third girl, I bought this book on Kindle, hoping to have an easier time getting baby to sleep and nap. Pantley’s advice is practical, gentle, and immediately implementable. I love how she empowers parents to learn their own particular brand of baby and her balanced, loving approach to getting baby the rest she needs. I will always recommend her books to friends.

Very useful book. I have given it as a gift for a number of new parents. This teaches you to read your baby's cues and understand them, without needing to cry it out methods. Highly recommended for all parents.
